Just last December 29, 2018, I was looking for an affordable hotel in Gensan because of a family gathering. Due to a peak season, there are only few hotels which have available rooms that day. And as I was searching Agoda, considering the price of the property, I found Hotel San Marco.
Hotel San Marco is an Italian-inspired boutique hotel in Gen. Santos City with 28 well-appointed rooms ( Standard Twin, Deluxe Single, Deluxe Premium, Superior Room, Family Room, Family Suite, and Matrimonial Suite).
The hotel is located in JP Laurel East Avenue, Gen. Santos City 9500. It’s roughly a 5-minute tricycle ride going to SM City Gensan and also near to Santiago Boulevard.
Since Hotel San Marco is located in the heart of Gensan and given the affordable rate, it is usually fully-booked. Gladly, they got an available room for me during that day.
Because there’s only few available rooms left, I booked the Deluxe Premium room that includes breakfast for only Php 2,176 NET (that’s already a good deal for a peak season)
Room amenities include, cable TV, wifi, mini fridge, coffee/tea making facility, telephone, and daily housekeeping service. The deluxe premium also offers a 24- square meter area with 54 x 78 inches double bed.
Aside from the rooms, Hotel San Marco has 2 function rooms that can accommodate 15-60 pax that is suitable for different types of events.
At the same time, the hotel has a dining outlet which they call Cafe Verona. Guests are entitled to have a breakfast in this area and feel the classic ambiance of the restaurant.
Hotels must always have the quality of interacting to the guests because this plays an important role in the hospitality industry. As with Hotel San Marco’s staff, I guess they don’t really have a pleasant reception (It’s just like a tourist-inn in nature). As far as I could remember, it’s only the security guard I saw smiling when I entered the hotel.
For me, as a hotel guest, operations team must always wear that smile despite an exhausting job. I’d rather talk to any operations people who endures and perseveres because they perfectly exude professionalism.
Yes, it’s really a hard job but we need to be positive. Your smile is the start of everything.
I’ll rate this a 2/5.
As with the interiors, design is good but the lighting is poor. Sadly, I cannot appreciate the beauty of Italian-inspired wallpapers anymore. Even in my room, lighting was not good too, I was actually scared when I’m about to sleep (hahaha).
I also felt quite disappointed because the hotel lacks slippers and toothbrush set. So if you want to book a room in this hotel, please bring your own pair of slippers and toothbrush.
One good thing is that, I appreciate their bed and pillow. It was just right for my preference as a guest.
On the other hand, breakfast at Cafe Verona was just okay. Nothing really special with the choices for the buffet breakfast.
I’ll be giving this a 2.5/5.
Overall outcome of my stay was just mediocre. It’s not at par or even close with the word “staycation”.
My thoughts would be, hotel rate “usually” goes directly with service and facilities. So the higher the rate, the better the satisfaction you will get when it comes to the hotel’s service and facilities/amenities.
So that’s a 2.5/5
