It was one Saturday night and I did want to cap my work and school week in a food spot in Makati. I’m still thinking of having a dinner in a cozy place in Poblacion since the location is known for different and new restaurants. And that’s where I found Tortuga.
Originally situated from Katipunan in QC, Tortuga softly opened last July 2018 at the 2nd Level of Lokal Hostel, Ebro Street, Poblacion, Makati.
The outlet is away from its original surroundings and market because it started from a student crowd and now, to grown ups. Though, their regular customers still visit them in a more chill location in Makati.
It has a tropical and island vibes from the exterior to interior. With their lights, furnitures, wall decors, one will really be mesmerized by the coziness of the place. And to make you enjoy your dining experience more, Tortuga has sets of DJs every Friday and Saturday night.
The restaurant offers delectable food and beverages that will surely captivate your taste buds.
I tried tasting their Jungle Pumba (Php 350), it’s a thick-cut pork belly slow cooked to tender perfection and grilled for a charred finish.
And there’s Tortuga Chicken Curry (PhP 350), a chicken thigh served in homemade lemongrass and coconut curry sauce.
For now, Tortuga’s food menu isn’t complete yet since they are still on the soft-opening season. But I can honestly tell you that their food is heavenly good! Jungle Pumba gave me that tender and juicy pork meat which I really love while Tortuga Chicken Curry offered a very flavorful dish that I couldn’t forget. The restaurant’s chicken curry is by far the most delicious curry that I’ve tasted in my entire life. This may sound exaggerated, but try it yourself. Without any doubt, I’ll give this a 4.5/5.
One thing that made my dining experience more memorable is their service. The staff to the restaurant manager, all were accommodating. The manager didn’t mind asking us questions about the food quality and all about the place. Even the bar tender answered all my questions regarding the information about the Tortuga. So it’s a 4/5.
The place is indeed relaxing. While the color and vibe makes you feel young (seriously). The background music is just enough that will not make your ear drums blow nor put you to sleep. Again, as I said, the restaurant/bar is really cozy and homey. I’ll give this a 3.5/5.
Poblacion food hubs are really expensive. It’s just normal if the restaurants in the area offer high prices. But it will all boil down to the quality of the food. As for my case, I will not mind paying Php 350 for a main dish which gave me a satisfaction like no other. So it’s just fair enough. It’s a 3.5/5 then.
My overall experience dining in a softly-opened Tortuga was really great! It turned my stressful week to a stress-free one.
Tortuga is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 6:00 pm until 2:00 am. For more updates, you can follow their Facebook and Instagram pages. Or you can email them at firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also call them through mobile number 0947 363 1066.
